Services for children from six months of age and older, based on supervisors discretion.
Specialized Services is an FSCD (Family Support for Children with Disabilities) funded program. The program uses a multi-disciplinary team of expert therapists to teach parents and caregivers of children with disabilities the skills and strategies to assist their children with tasks of everyday life.
Pacekids is a qualified provider of Specialized Services which is funded through Calgary Child and Family Services. Families who qualify for these services must have an agreement with Family Services for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) to receive Specialized Services through Pacekids. To qualify for Specialized Services families require the support of their FSCD worker and will typically meet with a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to determine what type of therapeutic disciplines a family will require. Once a family has been approved for services, the Pacekids team (Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist and Behaviour Strategist) will consult with the family provide techniques and strategies to support their children.
Purpose of Program
Specialized Services is a parent driven program that is designed to teach parents and caregivers of children with disabilities, strategies and skills to support their children with daily living routines. Although the program is supported by expert therapists, children may require therapeutic support to learn skills towards a greater goal.
At the beginning of services families meet the multi-disciplinary team and identify priorities in the areas of behaviour management, social interactions, communication, cognition, gross and fine motor development, mobility and functional daily living skills. Once priorities have been identified an Individual Service Plan (ISP) is created which illustrates the goals in one document. The document is considered a working document which allows families to add and remove priorities as skills are learned and the child grows. The program is home and community based; the therapist visits take place in either a client’s home or at a community location that the family has identified as being a place of difficulty. The monthly consultation is pre-arranged between the therapists and family.
