Meet Holly Johnston, one of Pacekids’ Occupational Therapists in our Community and In-Home programs!
1. What is your role at Pacekids, and how long have you been here?
“I have worked at Pacekids for almost 1 year! I am an Occupational Therapist on the Community and In-Home team. I support families with increasing their child’s independence in activities of daily living. This commonly involves working on strategies related to toileting, feeding, self-care routines, and learning about the child’s sensory preferences.”
2. What drew you to working with children with diverse needs?
“I have always been drawn to working with a pediatric population, and through pursuing Occupational Therapy, my passion for working with individuals with diverse needs grew. Over the years, I have done a lot of volunteering for events and programs geared towards children with diverse needs and I always have the most rewarding experiences getting to know families, and watching children build confidence through play!“
3. What is a moment at Pacekids that has stuck with you?
“Being able to witness and share the family’s excitement when their child makes steps towards their goal is always very memorable. It’s special seeing how much time and dedication families put into their children.“
4. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
“Watching parents’ confidence in implementing strategies into their routines grow is always rewarding. Being asked to implement multiple strategies at home is a big commitment, and seeing positive changes occur because parents have trusted my strategies and work so hard in and outside of sessions never goes unrecognized.”
5. What is something your colleagues might not know about you?
“I did competitive jump rope for 9 years! Yes, it is like the Disney movie ‘Jump In’“
